FAIRFAX, Virginia, February 22, 2006 – ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants today announced agreements with two additional European companies to distribute Exxon Aviation Oil Elite 20W-50 and the company's other aviation lubricants for aircraft piston engines. The new distributors are based in Germany and Poland, and will increase the availability of ExxonMobil's lubricants for general aviation aircraft in Europe.

Piper Generalvertretung Deutschland AG, with headquarters in Calden, Germany, is now part of the ExxonMobil's distributor network in Germany. The company, also known as Piper Germany, sells aircraft and parts, and provides maintenance and repair. It also runs a charter service and flying school.

Unimot Express, based in Warsaw, Poland, is now a distributor for ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants in Poland. The company is a leading distributor of quality petroleum products, including fuels, liquid gases, oil and greases, base oils and paraffin waxes.

It is anticipated that the two distributors will make buying ExxonMobil's aviation lubricants easier for piston aircraft owners and pilots in Europe, where products are readily available at 15 locations within the UK, including Adams Aviation Supply Company; two in Germany, including RAS Parts; and one in Poland, Impex-Saro. In all, ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants has distributors in 10 European countries.

ExxonMobil-Sponsored Pilots John de Frayssinet (pilot) and Jennifer Ayres (navigator) Break the Absolute World Air Speed Record (piston) from Land's End to John O'Groats

On May 12, 2005, a disabled couple John de Frayssinet (Pilot) and Jennifer Ayres (Navigator) broke the absolute World Air Speed record (piston) from Land's End to John o'Groats to support the British Disabled Flying Association. The previous record was at 138.553 mph. In the Pilotfriend Glasair, John and Jenny flew the same course at 207.3 mph, taking some hour and a quarter off the existing record.

ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants Expands European Distribution Network to Include Poland and Croatia

FAIRFAX, Virginia, April 13, 2005 – ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants today announced the expanded availability of its aircraft piston-engine oils in Europe with the appointment of key distributors in Poland and Croatia. The new distributors, which will also provide technical service, are Impex-Saro in Poland and Auto Kreso in Croatia.

Impex-Saro, a leading importer and distributor of lubricant and chemical products in Poland, also distributes ExxonMobil marine lubricants, and specializes in technical consulting on lubrication and maintenance issues for industrial plants. Inprex-Saro's headquarters is located in Gdansk.

Auto Kreso is currently the biggest automotive spare parts importer and wholesale distributor in Croatia, with nine stores, 14 sub-distributors and 50 delivery vehicles. Its headquarters are located in Zagreb.

ExxonMobil To Sponsor UK Pilots' Effort To Break World Air Speed Record
Two disabled pilots aim to set new piston-engine mark from Land's End to John O'Groats in UK

LEATHERHEAD, United Kingdom, April 4, 2005 – ExxonMobil today announced it will sponsor the flight of a home-built Glasair RG Special aircraft, built and piloted by two disabled aviators attempting to set a new World Air Speed Record for piston-engine aircraft. ExxonMobil's Aviation Lubricants and Aviation Fuels organisations will provide Exxon Aviation Oil Elite 20W-50 and Aviation Gasoline 100 LL.

The flight, scheduled for early May (exact date contingent on weather conditions), will start at Land's End in southwest England and end at John O'Groats in northern Scotland – the furthest distance end-to-end on the UK mainland. In their assault on the record, pilot John de Frayssinet and navigator Jenny Ayres will also be attempting to raise public awareness about the possibilities for disabled people in the sport of flying. There are now about 500 disabled pilots in the UK.

The current outright World Air Speed record for piston-engine land aircraft on the route was set in 2003 by Nicholas Lambert flying a Diamond DA40D. His average speed was 138.553 miles per hour. Although Lambert's aeroplane weighed between 1000 and 1750kg, making it a class C-1c aircraft, his record stands for all piston-engine land planes, not just for his class.

The faster Glasair, which is powered by a Lycoming engine and is able to cruise easily at 200 mph, is lighter, weighing only 904kg fully laden. As such, it falls into the C-1b land plane category. The flight would set a record for C-1b, but would also attempt to break Lambert's overall record for piston-engine aeroplanes. Although the distance between the two points is 621.2 statue miles, de Frayssinet's and Ayres' route will be slightly longer as they are unable to take off from the grass runways at Land's End.

The purpose of the flight is to raise funds for the British Disabled Flying Association, which plans to establish a flying centre to train the disabled.

"Often the life of disablement is about all the things one cannot do and things one has lost," says de Frayssinet, an amputee who uses crutches, "but getting a pilot's license is an accomplishment for any person. For the disabled, it can mean the start of self-respect."

Exxon Elite Most Effective in a Study of Engine Wear Protection
Analysis of wear metals in used oil samples compares brands of oil for aircraft piston engines

FAIRFAX, Virginia, March 29, 2005 – ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants today announced the results of statistically significant research data analysis showing that hundreds of engines lubricated with Exxon Aviation Oil Elite 20W-50 had, on average, 33 percent to 50 percent less wear metals in used oil drains, compared to engines protected by competitive products.

"For years, laboratory technicians have analyzed the chemical content of used oil as a way to gauge engine wear without having to break down the engine, but this same technology can also be used to compare the effectiveness of different oil brands in protecting against wear," says Ken Fritz, global marketing manager, ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants. "That's what our study was all about."

ExxonMobil based its findings on a statistical analysis of hundreds of used oil samples taken from a wide variety of aircraft piston engine types that operated in a wide variety of conditions by a wide variety of operators. An independent, third-party laboratory provided the samples.

In its brand comparison, ExxonMobil measured parts per million per flight hour for aluminum, iron, copper and chromium, all of which are indicators of engine wear. The lower the parts per million of these wear indicators on average in a used oil sample, the more effective the brand in controlling wear. Analysts recorded wear-metals measurements for Exxon Elite, Commercial AD Monograde with Lycoming Additive (SAE 50), Commercial 15W-50, Commercial AD Monograde (SAE 50), and Competitive Mineral 20W-50.

In each case, Exxon Elite performed better than its competitors. In wear metals of iron taken from used oil drains, for instance, Exxon Elite had 0.46 parts per million compared to 1.14 ppm for Commercial AD Monograde with Lycoming Additive (SAE 50), 0.97 ppm for Commercial 15W-50, 1.94 ppm for Commercial AD Monograde (SAE 50) and 2.51 ppm for Competitive Mineral 20W-50. Traces of iron can indicate wear in pistons, rings, cylinders, gears, crank and camshaft, and bearings.

Exxon Elite samples also contained substantially fewer particles of aluminum, copper and chromium. Aluminum can indicate wear in pistons, bushings, thrust washer, block, head and blower. Copper suggests wear in bearings, bushings, gears and camshaft. Chromium can show wear in plating, cylinder liners, piston rings and gears (see chart for results).

In analyzing the results, technicians first grouped wear metal results by product and averaged them. Since aircraft owners change oil at different oil-drain intervals, they further divided each wear metal measurement by the number of flight hours on that particular oil sample.

Wear in aviation piston engines is often an invisible phenomenon to an aircraft owner. Mechanics can measure the wear in various engine components, but only at TBO (time between overhaul) when the engine is normally torn down, or during a premature teardown. An alternative approach is to analyze the chemical content of used oil to provide an indication of wear. Used oil, which can be measured on a regular basis in a laboratory, is essentially a mechanical "blood sample" that can provide a fast and inexpensive check of the health of an engine. Although the technology has been used for years to monitor engine wear, it also has another less-used application: Measuring the effectiveness of different brands.

"Aircraft owners often ask, 'Just how do I know which oil brand to use?' says ExxonMobil's Ken Fritz. "Oil analysis provides the answer, also measuring which brand works best, and that brand is Exxon Elite."

Aircraft to make debut at Aerofair 2004

LONDON, United Kingdom, May 17, 2004 -- ExxonMobil Aviation Lubricants today announced it will sponsor British aerobatic pilots Mark Jefferies and Kester Scrope as they perform in various European competitions and shows, starting May 21 at Aerofair 2004, and including the World Championships in 2005.

Jefferies and Scrope fly an Extra 300S, one of only 31 aircraft of its type worldwide, and the only one based in Great Britain. Named The Elite Twister, the plane is designed for unlimited aerobatics. It can roll at rates in excess of 360 degrees per second, climb at speeds exceeding 3,000 feet per minute and withstand forces of 16Gs. The pilots' trainer is Alan Cassidy, one of Britain's best-known and most experienced aerobatic instructors.

"Twister" refers to a unique manoeuver in which Jefferies starts with two left rolls on the axis of the aircraft, then rolls right and sideways, snapping around three times to a vertical position at zero airspeed, after which he barrels back through his own flight path. ExxonMobil Introduces Private eStore For Civil Air Patrol and Its Members
Online efficiency makes buying piston-engine lubricants easy for geographically dispersed members
